Most important daily habits | What is a good habit to do every day?
Is this long list too overwhelming? That’s okay. My main advice is to take things easy. If you want to know the most important daily habit to do every day I’d say one sentence: focus on your gut.
To me, the most important daily habit is to focus on gut healing. This one habit incorporates all areas of life. This includes eating plant-based meals, focusing on calming stress, doing daily exercise, and listening to your body.
When you heal your gut, you heal your life. Your gut is oftentimes termed your “second brain.” It is the center of all your bodily functions. This means that no matter how detailed your to-do list is. If your gut is unhealthy, your entire day will leave you feeling unhealthy and unhappy.

How habits become the new routine | How do you turn a habit into a routine?
How are new habits formed? Can a routine become a habit?
I’m a professional in the health and wellness industry. My most commonly asked question is “How do I commit to a healthy lifestyle?” People always think to improve you need to make drastic changes.
This is often not true. You need to find small daily habits to implement into your routine. Once something becomes a habit, it leads to becoming your default routine. And it’s what you do daily in your routine that brings you success. Do you see the pattern?
What are 5 habits that can improve my life? | What are the top 5 good habits?
What’s the best daily routine? What is the most successful morning routine? What daily routine is best?
This is my sequence for a good morning routine in 5 simple steps:
- Wake up early every day.
- Start your day with nutrients.
- Go for a nature walk.
- Check in with your gut and your body.
- Make a to-do list for the rest of the day.
Let’s take a closer look at each of these.
1. Wake up early every day | Is waking up early actually healthy?
Waking up before 8 am gives you ample time to see for yourself. If you are a mom, business owner, wife, and dog mom then you will understand that your time is not your own! So, you have to make time for yourself.
Wake up before the rest of your family. Before all the responsibilities start. Before you need to clock into work. And do the most important things you can. This sets the mood for productivity for the rest of the day.
2. Start your day with nutrients | What nutrients should you get in the morning?
You might wonder what nutrients are needed each morning. Well, these are my top picks:
- Water.
- A healthy breakfast.
- Vitamin supplements.
- Lots of greens.
- Fruit and nuts snacks.
- Plant-based meals.
- Green tea.
- More water.
Start your day with a healthy breakfast. It will give your body the much-needed nutrients to perform tasks. It will also provide you with energy. Breakfast is a great way to boost your metabolism and burn some fat.
3. Go for a nature walk | Why is it important to walk in nature?
Nature walks are a triple combo. You get fresh air, sunlight, and exercise all in one! These are all needed for a healthier and happier you.
Prioritize spending time in nature. It is so good for your body. It is also a great way to clear your mind. Nature brings tranquility and peace as no other place can.
This is a great habit to develop every morning. Especially if you know you’ll be working from a desk the rest of the day and won’t get much movement in your day.
I love nature walks. If you’re still skeptical about them, then check out why walks are so important and why you should start doing it too: https://www.healthconcepts.ie/why-are-nature-walks-important/
4. Check-in with your gut and your body | How do you test if your gut is healthy?
Hey, you…Yes, you! Did you know, your gut speaks to you? Your gut speaks to you in the following ways:
- Constipation.
- Stress.
- Nervousness.
- Low appetite.
- Diarrhea.
- Slow metabolism.
- Food sensitivities.
- Bloating.
- Nausea.
- Cravings.
- Cramps.
You need to sit still in the morning and listen to your gut. If you experience any of these signs, your gut needs help. It is showing signs of being unhealthy.

5. Make a to-do list for the rest of the day | How do you make a to-do list for the next day?
You’ve heard the saying “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” It might sound super wishy-washy. But it is very important to keep it in mind. Make a small to-do list for your day. Do not cramp it up. Max 5 things. Prioritize the most important things.
It’s most effective if you start the difficult things during the time of the day that you’re most productive. This will ensure you tick it off and do it. Schedule the easier stuff for later in the day. And remember to prioritize relaxation too, always!

How can I make a daily routine for myself? What is a perfect daily routine?
How real healthy habits are formed:
Here are my top steps in creating a daily schedule:
- Step 1: Find a cute journal/ planner.
- Step 2: Create headings.
- Step 3: Start with the things that have due dates.
- Step 4: Work with your wake-up and sleeping times.
- Step 5: Self-care routines are essential.
- Step 6: Make sure you incorporate all areas of your life.
Sounds pretty simplistic right? Let’s explore each one in more detail.
Step 1: Find a cute journal/ planner
I can’t be the only one that enjoys things more when they are visually aesthetic! Find a cute journal book. Or go online and get a scheduler app you like.
Either way, ensure it has themes, fonts, and colours that will make your scheduling more fun and pleasing to your eyes. Also, make sure it is simple to understand and not overcrowded.
Step 2: Create headings
It’s best to divide your daily schedule into 6 headings:
- Date
- Time schedule
- To-do list
- Goals
- Notes
- Quotes
Under these headings, you can give details about your day.
The date is to keep you on track and to also allow you to plan.
A time schedule allows you to account for every hour of your day.
Your to-do list will contain all the extra stuff you remember during the day that you need to get done.
Your goals can be broad. It can describe which feelings you want to focus on or what your overall goals are for the day.
Notes and quotes allow you to have your thoughts on paper too. When you have positive quotes on your daily schedule you will remain motivated every time you look at them. Notes allow you to write down your thoughts and extra things coming up in the day.
Step 3: Start with the things that have due dates
It’s simple- if it is due soon, do it soon! Start with the things that have deadlines. Like work, application forms, assignments, appointments, etc.
It allows you to go about your day in a way that doesn’t have you stressed. So you can take on the rest of your tasks with ease.
Step 4: Work with your wake-up and sleeping times
Write down what time you will wake up. Then write down what time you will sleep. Now, the window from waking up to sleeping is what you will schedule.
Break up your schedule into times. Make sure each time is accounted for. Even rest. And remember to schedule in wind down time before bed.
Step 5: Self-care routines are essential
A schedule isn’t about work- it’s about balance. A great way to ensure your schedule has balance is to have morning and night routines.
This will include:
- Skincare routine
- Hair care
- Journaling
- Exercising
- Prayer/ faith practice/ reflection
- Reading
- Self-check-in
Step 6: Make sure you incorporate all areas of your life
Following from above, what’s important is balance. So, write down each area of your life namely: fitness, nutrition, mental health, work, skills, studies, relationships, social, rest, spiritual, and anything else you want to.
Then ensure you do at least one thing in each category each day (or at the very least, almost each day). This is the key to real balance in life! You can’t do it all in one day, but you can do the important things.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to have long-term healthy habits?
Why you shouldn’t change too much too quickly
My advice to anyone would be that having a to-do list every day is good but it should not have more than 3-5 items on it. List the top important things that need getting done and do those things first.
People with endless long lists tend to do the easiest things first and the important things get left undone. This results in stress. Stress then deteriorates your gut and your body in ways that can cause a ripple of so many other health side effects. No one wants a stressed belly!
